The Choice of Certainty

By: Zach Collins

Benjamin Franklin once said that two things are certain in life, death and taxes. He couldn’t be more right. In fact, did you know there is a death tax? Oh, sorry, an ‘estate tax’, which is passed onto your family when you die. The government taxes your money after your passing. That gives a whole new meaning to born free but taxed to death. Right? So many things in life are uncertain, from the rest of today, to the question of tomorrow. Yet, we fill our lives with the hope of certainty, only to be brought to reality by uncertainty. But, what is the one aspect, in our life, we must remain certain of? Our Faith.

The Hebrews writer said, in Hebrews 11:1, “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the certainty of things not seen.”

Let me ask a question: Is your Faith paving a road of certainty or uncertainty on your journey to the next life?

You see, just as death and taxes are certain, there is something else that is certain, an opportunity at eternal life after death. But, whether you are certain, or uncertain, to obtain that opportunity is solely up to you. Some might argue that you can never be certain in your eternal destination, but I disagree. I believe the answer begins and ends with us, individually. The faith and faithfulness you demonstrate, in your Christianity, determines whether you build a road of certainty or uncertainty on the journey to the next life. It’s simple: You can either be certain, or uncertain, that you are going to Heaven. But, be sure of this, only your Faith and the life you lead, in this life, can transform doubt into certainty, in the next life.
