Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
I love gifts! When I was a kid, I used to sneak around the house and try to find the places where my parents hid the Christmas gifts. Ok, I guess I still do that. But, once I found the gifts, guess what I did? I tried to open the gifts, without really opening them. In other words, I shook and tore until I could discern the gift that was hidden in the box. So, when it came time to open gifts, I sometimes knew what the gift was but I acted like I didn’t, I acted surprised!
Do we sometimes do that with salvation? I mean, we know that eternal life is God’s gift to us, but do we act like we don’t? Do we shake and tear God’s gift just to see what it is, and then put it off? Sometimes, I think we do.
Do you know what the best thing about God’s gift is? It’s intended to be opened before the big day! On judgment day, if you haven’t opened God’s gift, don’t act surprised when you don’t receive that gift. Today, open and accept God’s gift!
